Chrysler BB 413-440 V8 Ready to Run Distributor with Female Cap
This Ready to Run distributor is built for the Chrysler RB big block V8 family — 413, 426 Wedge, and 440 CID — and the 426 Street Hemi (1966–1971), using a multi-pole reluctor (Hall-effect) trigger in place of breaker points for consistent spark delivery across the RPM range. This version is equipped with a female-terminal distributor cap.
This distributor requires an external coil rated at 35,000+ volts (not included) and a 12-volt electrical system with an alternator. It is not compatible with generator-based charging systems or vehicles still running a ballast resistor in the ignition circuit — the ballast resistor must be removed or bypassed before installation. Vehicles originally built with a 6-volt system (pre-1956) will need a 12V conversion completed first, or this distributor will not fire correctly.
Engine fitment covers the Chrysler RB big block — 413 (6.8L), 426 Wedge (7.0L), and 440 (7.2L) CID — as well as the 426 Street Hemi (7.0L), commonly found in the Chrysler Imperial, New Yorker, Dodge Polara, Dodge motorhome chassis, and 1966–1971 Street Hemi applications.
Female Terminal Cap and Steel Gear
This unit uses a female-terminal distributor cap — match this to your existing coil and plug wire connector style before ordering, since TSP's male-cap version of this same distributor (SKU JM6714R) requires the opposite terminal style. It also includes a steel distributor gear; confirm compatibility with your camshaft's gear material before installation.
Performance Benefit
The Hall-effect reluctor trigger holds ignition timing more consistently than a worn points setup, without the gap drift that develops in breaker-point systems over time. Mechanical and vacuum advance work together to shape the timing curve for street-driven and performance applications, and the steel gear and aluminum housing keep the unit accurate under sustained RPM.
COMPATIBLE WITH
CHRYSLER BIG BLOCK "RB" V8
• 6.8 L / 413 in³
• 7.0 L / 426 in³ commonly referred to as "426 Wedge"
• 7.2 L / 440 in³
CHRYSLER HEMI V8 GEN. II
• 7.0 L / 426 in³ — 426 Street Hemi
NOTES
• Fits Chrysler RB-series big block V8 engines (413, 426 Wedge, and 440) and 426 Street Hemi Gen. II engines.
• Not compatible with Chrysler B-series engines (350, 361, 383, 400) — B engines use a shorter deck height and different intake manifold.
• Not compatible with Gen. III Hemi (5.7L, 6.1L, 6.4L) — modern Hemi engines are not distributor-based.
• The 413 was used in passenger cars through 1965 only; truck and RV applications continued through 1979.
• Designed for carbureted ignition systems only.
• This distributor is designed for a 12 volt electrical system with an alternator and a performance ignition coil of 35,000 V or more.
• It is not compatible with a generator and cannot be used with a ballast resistor.
• Distributor gear is most compatible with cast iron hydraulic or solid flat tappet camshafts; consult cam manufacturer for recommended gear material.
