Chrysler BB 413-440 V8 Pro Series Pro Billet Distributor

This Pro Billet distributor is built for the Chrysler RB big block V8 family — 413, 426 Wedge, and 440 CID — and the 426 Street Hemi (1966–1971), using a magnetic pickup trigger with mechanical-only advance for precise, consistent timing control in dedicated performance applications.

This distributor requires a separate ignition box (not included) and an external coil rated at 35,000+ volts (not included), along with a 12-volt electrical system with an alternator. It is not compatible with generator-based charging systems or vehicles still running a ballast resistor in the ignition circuit — the ballast resistor must be removed or bypassed before installation.

Engine fitment covers the Chrysler RB big block — 413 (6.8L), 426 Wedge (7.0L), and 440 (7.2L) CID — as well as the 426 Street Hemi (7.0L), commonly found in the Chrysler Imperial, New Yorker, Dodge Polara, Dodge motorhome chassis, and 1966–1971 Street Hemi applications.

 

Mechanical-Only Advance: What This Means for Tuning
Unlike TSP's Ready to Run and HEI distributors for this platform, this Pro Billet unit uses mechanical advance only, with no vacuum advance canister. This is a common setup for dedicated performance and race applications where a fixed, RPM-based advance curve is preferred over a load-based vacuum advance curve. The included bushings and springs allow the mechanical advance curve to be tuned to your engine combination.

Clearance Note for Fabricated Valve Covers
Due to cap and housing diameter, this distributor may not clear some fabricated or aftermarket valve covers. Confirm clearance with your specific valve cover before ordering, particularly with tall or narrow fabricated covers.

Performance Benefit
The magnetic trigger and mechanical advance combination is built for dedicated performance and race applications where precise, adjustable timing control matters more than street convenience features like vacuum advance or a self-contained coil. The included bushing/spring kit lets the advance curve be tuned to your specific engine combination.
