Chrysler SB 318/360 V8 Pro Series Pro Billet Distributor

This Pro Billet distributor is built for the Chrysler/Mopar LA small block V8 family — 273, 318, 340, and 360 CID — using a magnetic pickup trigger with mechanical-only advance for precise, consistent timing control in dedicated performance applications.

This distributor requires a separate ignition box (not included) and an external coil rated at 35,000+ volts (not included), along with a 12-volt electrical system with an alternator. It is not compatible with generator-based charging systems or vehicles still running a ballast resistor in the ignition circuit — the ballast resistor must be removed or bypassed before installation.

Engine fitment covers the Chrysler LA small block — 273 (4.5L), 318 (5.2L), 340 (5.6L), and 360 (5.9L) CID — commonly found in the Dodge Dart, Challenger, Ramcharger, Plymouth Fury, and Chrysler Cordoba. This distributor is not designed to fit Chrysler Magnum-series engines.

 

Mechanical-Only Advance: What This Means for Tuning
Unlike TSP's Ready to Run and HEI distributors for this platform, this Pro Billet unit uses mechanical advance only, with no vacuum advance canister. This is a common setup for dedicated performance and race applications where a fixed, RPM-based advance curve is preferred over a load-based vacuum advance curve. The included bushings and springs allow the mechanical advance curve to be tuned to your engine combination.

Adjustable Slip Collar for Rotor Phasing
This distributor includes a slip collar, allowing the housing to be rotated independently of the drive gear for fine rotor phasing adjustment — a feature commonly used when degreeing a distributor on a dedicated performance build.

Performance Benefit
The magnetic trigger and mechanical advance combination is built for dedicated performance and race applications where precise, adjustable timing control matters more than street convenience features like vacuum advance or a self-contained coil. The included bushing/spring kit and slip collar let both the advance curve and rotor phasing be tuned to your specific engine combination.
