Buick Small Block V8 Pro Series Ready to Run Distributor
The TSP Pro Series Ready-to-Run Distributor for the Buick small block V8 delivers precise, adjustable ignition performance across the full Buick small block family — 215 CID (3.5L), 300 CID (4.9L), 340 CID (5.6L), and 350 CID (5.7L) — in carbureted applications. It also fits the 1970–1974 Range Rover equipped with the Rover 3.5L V8, which shares its foundational architecture with the Buick 215 aluminum V8. Built on a machined aluminum housing with a circuit board module and magnetic pickup trigger, this distributor delivers accurate, repeatable ignition timing without points, condenser, or a separate ignition control box.
Unlike the TSP Buick small block HEI distributor, the Pro Series uses an external ignition coil — giving you the flexibility to select a coil matched to your specific build — while the internal ignition module eliminates the need for a separate ignition control box or CDI unit. A minimum coil output of 35,000 volts is required — coil is not included. Distributor rotation is clockwise, consistent with standard Buick small block architecture.
Three advance bushings and four advance springs are included, allowing the mechanical advance curve to be tailored to your engine's camshaft profile, compression ratio, and carburetor calibration — a meaningful advantage over the fixed advance curve of a stock points or basic HEI setup. A vacuum advance block-off plate is included for performance and race applications where vacuum advance is not needed. A tachometer output extension cable is included for straightforward aftermarket tach wiring.
Why Choose the Pro Series Over the Buick Small Block HEI?
The TSP Buick small block HEI distributor is the simpler option — integrated coil, single 12V wire, direct-fit replacement for street and restoration builds. The Pro Series Ready-to-Run is the step up for builders who need more control. The external coil setup lets you run a coil matched to your ignition system and build level. The included advance tuning kit — three bushings and four advance springs — allows the mechanical advance curve to be dialed in for your specific engine rather than running a fixed factory-style ramp. A vacuum advance block-off plate is included for performance builds where vacuum advance is not wanted. For a stock rebuild or basic ignition refresh, the HEI is the right call. For a modified engine, a performance carburetor, or any build where advance curve behavior matters, the Pro Series delivers what the HEI cannot.
Performance Benefit
The circuit board module and magnetic pickup trigger deliver precise, repeatable spark timing without the wear and drift that accumulates in points-based systems. Three advance bushings and four advance springs allow full adjustment of the mechanical advance curve — how quickly timing comes in with rising RPM — which is particularly valuable on Buick small block builds running aftermarket camshafts, elevated compression ratios, or performance carburetors. A vacuum advance block-off plate gives race and dedicated performance builds the option to run full mechanical advance control only. A tachometer output extension cable is included to simplify aftermarket tach wiring without additional adapters.
