Chevy Corvette V8 Pro Series Ready to Run Female Distributor with Mechanical Tach Drive
The TSP Pro Series Ready-to-Run Distributor for the Chevy Corvette with Mechanical Tach Drive — Female Cap version — is functionally identical to the male terminal cap version (JM7715) in every respect: same engine fitment, same advance kit, same included components, same price. The sole difference is the terminal gender on the distributor cap. This unit features female terminal sockets that accept male-pin spark plug wire boots.
Terminal gender determines plug wire compatibility. Female terminal caps accept spark plug wires with male-pin boots. Male terminal caps accept spark plug wires with female-socket boots. Before ordering, confirm the terminal gender of your replacement or upgraded plug wire set. Using the wrong terminal gender requires adapters and is not recommended.
The mechanical tach drive provision on this distributor is required for cable-driven tachometers found in the Corvette C2 (1963–1967) and C3 (1968–1982). Without it, a cable-driven tachometer has no signal source and will not operate. If your vehicle uses an electronic tachometer signal rather than a physical tachometer cable, the standard TSP Pro Series distributor without tach drive is the correct and less expensive choice.
Engine fitment covers the complete Gen. I Chevrolet small block — 262 through 400 CID — and the standard-deck Mark IV big block — 396, 402, 427, and 454 CID — in carbureted applications. Three advance bushings and four advance springs are included for mechanical advance curve tuning. A vacuum advance block-off plate, tachometer output extension cable, power extension cable, and color-matched plug wire retainer are also included. External ignition coil required — 35,000V minimum, not included.
Female Cap vs. Male Cap — Which Version Do You Need?
This listing (JM7715F) and the companion listing (JM7715) are the same Pro Series Corvette tach drive distributor in every functional respect — same engine fitment, same specs, same advance kit, same price. The only difference is terminal gender on the distributor cap. Female terminals are recessed sockets on the cap that accept male-pin spark plug wire boots. Male terminals are protruding pins that insert into female-socket wire boots.
Before ordering, check the terminal type on the spark plug wire boots where they connect to the distributor cap, or verify the terminal gender of your replacement wire set. If the wire boots have a male pin that inserts into the cap, this female cap version (JM7715F) is correct. If the wire boots have a female socket that slides over a pin on the cap, the male terminal version (JM7715) is correct.
What This Distributor Does — Three Features in One Unit
This unit combines three capabilities that standard Pro Series and standard tach drive distributors provide separately:
One — the Pro Series Ready-to-Run design with external coil flexibility and advance curve tunability through the included three-bushing and four-spring advance kit. A vacuum advance block-off plate is included for performance builds preferring full mechanical advance control.
Two — the mechanical tach drive provision for cable-driven tachometers used in the Corvette C2 (1963–1967) and C3 (1968–1982) as standard equipment.
Three — a female terminal cap specifically for plug wire sets using male-pin boots.
