Chevy SB/BB V8 Pro Series Pro Billet Distributor with Vacuum Advance

The TSP Pro Series Pro Billet Distributor with Vacuum Advance for the Chevy SBC and BBC delivers the premium billet construction, slip collar timing precision, and advance curve tunability of the Pro Series Pro Billet — with the addition of vacuum advance for street-driven applications. This is the street-optimized version of the Pro Series Pro Billet, designed for performance builds that use an external CDI ignition box but also benefit from vacuum advance for light-throttle drivability, idle quality, and part-throttle fuel economy.

An external ignition control box is required. Without a compatible CDI box — MSD 6A, MSD 6AL, Mallory HyFire, Crane HI-6, or equivalent — this distributor will not function. An external ignition coil rated at 35,000 volts or higher is also required. Neither the box nor the coil is included. If you need a self-contained ignition upgrade without an external box, see the TSP HEI (JM6501), small cap Ready-to-Run (JM6701), or Pro Series Ready-to-Run (JM7715).

Vacuum Advance vs. Mechanical Only — Choosing the Right Pro Series Pro Billet:
The mechanical-only version (JM7601) and this vacuum advance version (JM7601-1) are the same price and share the same premium billet construction, slip collar, advance tuning kit, and ignition box requirement. The difference is in how timing advances at light throttle and idle. Vacuum advance adds additional ignition timing under light throttle and cruise conditions — improving idle quality, reducing fuel consumption at part throttle, and improving drivability on the street. At full throttle and high RPM, vacuum advance typically drops out and has no effect on peak performance. For performance street builds where the car is also daily driven or driven on the street regularly, this vacuum advance version is the correct choice. For dedicated race, track-only, or dyno applications where vacuum advance is not wanted, the mechanical-only version (JM7601) is the correct unit.

The slip collar allows the distributor to be rotated for precise timing adjustment and locked firmly in position, preventing timing movement under high-RPM and high-vibration conditions. Three advance bushings and four advance springs are included for mechanical advance curve customization. A color-matched spark plug wire retainer with screws is included.

Ignition Box + Vacuum Advance — How They Work Together
Running vacuum advance with an external CDI ignition box is a common and effective setup for street performance builds. The mechanical advance curve provides the base timing advance at RPM, the vacuum advance adds timing at light throttle and idle, and the external ignition box provides the high-energy spark output and any additional timing control features your box offers (such as MSD's built-in rev limiter or timing retard). The three advance bushings and four springs allow the mechanical advance curve to be precisely calibrated for your engine, while the vacuum advance canister handles the light-throttle timing addition automatically.

Premium Billet Features — What You're Getting
Slip collar: Locks the distributor housing in precise position after timing is set, preventing timing movement under high-RPM vibration — standard equipment on quality billet race distributors.
Advance tuning kit: Three bushings and four springs for full mechanical advance curve customization matched to your specific engine, camshaft, and RPM range.
Billet aluminum housing: Compact design providing additional clearance in performance engine bays where larger distributor housings may interfere with aftermarket intakes or other components.
